This is information about the expenses required to enter Hokkaido University or study here as an exchange student.
In reality, the amount varies greatly depending on individual lifestyles, accommodations, etc.

For international students who need temporary financial support due to unexpected accidents, incidents, illness, etc., the following support systems are available.
Michiko Seki International Student Support Fund
This system was established to support international students when they are truly in trouble in maintaining their lives.
Target audience
Those who meet the following two conditions
- International students enrolled in Hokkaido University
- Those who have financial difficulties due to unexpected accidents, incidents, illnesses, etc. during their study at Hokkaido University and would like to receive financial support to continue their study here.
Application method
Please obtain the guidelines and application form from the academic affairs staff of your faculty, etc., read them carefully, and submit them.
Note
- After you submit your application, it will be reviewed and you will be interviewed.
- If you can receive support, it will take approximately 2 to 3 months after submitting the application form.
- After screening process, you may not be able to receive support.

Lump-sum Loan
This is an interest-free loan system for 6 months with an upper limit of 50,000 yen after screening when international students need money temporarily. This system is one of the "Hokkiado University Supporter's Organization" projects.
Target audience
International students enrolled in Hokkaido University
*Excluding Japanese Government Scholarship Student, foreign government-sponsored international students, and international students with a remaining period of enrollment of less than 6 months.
Application method
Please inquire at the academic affairs section of your faculty or at the 1st floor counter of the Student Support Division (1st floor of Institute for the Advancement of Higher Education).
Note
- Since it is a loan system, it must be repaid.
- If you are eligible for assistance, it will take about four weeks after you submit your application.
- After screening process, you may not receive support.
