Overview
Cell Function and Structure I: Living organisms have many genetic information, and they live by expressing them under temporal and spatial control. Lectures are given on the control mechanism at various levels of gene expression. Student will understand the whole flow of genetic information and its control, and will develop the ability to study about what kind of problems is present. Furthermore students will learn what plants are and how plants develop their body and structure during their whole life, especially focusing on land plants. To this end, we will learn how plant cells proliferate, differentiate and communicate. Learning an evolutionary developmental (Evo-devo) point of view on land plants is also an important topic in my lecture.

Cell Function and Structure II: Plants and microorganisms retain excellent abilities for environmental adaptation. This course introduces regulatory mechanisms of plant development and responses to multiple environmental stresses, especially deals with molecular basis of post-transcriptional processes such as mRNA degradation, translation and ubiquitin-dependent protein degradation systems. Furthermore, the students will be able to learn about the intracellular structures specific to bacterial cells and their functions, several conditions for bacterial growth, and the characteristics of bacteria living in extreme environments and their adaptive mechanisms.
